I've been hunting for the perfect leather jacket for an eternity (this may be hyperbole.) After scouring countless thrift stores to no avail, I'd decided that finding one that fits and is affordable is damn near impossible. So, when I stopped in the recently reopened Lakewood vintage store, Future No Future last week to hunt for some cool summery stuff, I was not anticipating finding my version of the Holy Grail. As luck would have it, I randomly checked out the coat section and there it was, tucked in a corner — a gorgeous vintage '80s biker jacket with an asymmetrical zipper and tie-up sides. It fit perfectly and I had to have it. Needless to say, I wasn't even mad that we had unseasonably cool temps last week.
Perhaps less surprising than discovering the perfect leather jacket while hunting for shorts and sundresses, Future No Future's new location is fantastic. The store closed down for months last year as it relocated from Madison Avenue to a prime spot in downtown Lakewood on Detroit Avenue. And while the old store felt a tad cramped, the new spot is spacious, with a decidedly boutique atmosphere that includes well-curated displays of on-trend crop tops and '90s frocks decked with sunflowers. A back room is stocked with shoes, bags and floor-to-ceiling racks of mostly Mid-century attire, while another is brimming with dapper duds for the guys. And unlike so many vintage stores, prices are very reasonable (even for this cheapskate.) Plus, they can do alterations for you if a skirt is too long, etc.
I definitely recommend checking out the new and improved Future No Future. Who knows? You might just find the perfect thing your wardrobe has been missing too.
