Future No Future & the Perfect Leather Jacket

I've been hunting for the perfect leather jacket for an eternity (this may be hyperbole.) After scouring countless thrift stores to no avail, I'd decided that finding one that fits and is affordable is damn near impossible. So, when I stopped in the recently reopened Lakewood vintage store, Future No Future last week to hunt for some cool summery stuff, I was not anticipating finding my version of the Holy Grail. As luck would have it, I randomly checked out the coat section and there it was, tucked in a corner — a gorgeous vintage '80s biker jacket with an asymmetrical zipper and tie-up sides. It fit perfectly and I had to have it. Needless to say, I wasn't even mad that we had unseasonably cool temps last week.

The Perfect Leather Jacket in action. I think I was adjusting my sleeve, but Eric says it looks like I'm doing Tai Chi in this pic. What I'm wearing: vintage leather jacket from Future No Future , leopard print blouse and anchor necklace from Avalon Exchange , thrifted satin tuxedo pants by Express, Dolce Vita oxfords, Katy Perry for Claire's cat stacking rings, ear jackets from Target.

This jacket is badass. No seriously, it said so on the tag. This is my attempt at a fittingly badass surly expression. Though my demeanor is frequently surly, my expression is not so much.

I treated myself to this gorgeous gold-plated Coach watch with a tiger's eye face last month. It's sold out on the Jared the Galleria website now, but you can still find it at Macy's. The ring is Eric's grandfather's wedding ring.

The best part of this blouse is the back, which will look great with a fancy bra and no tank underneath. This was a work outfit though, so modesty won. I did a handstand, because duh.

Perhaps less surprising than discovering the perfect leather jacket while hunting for shorts and sundresses, Future No Future's new location is fantastic. The store closed down for months last year as it relocated from Madison Avenue to a prime spot in downtown Lakewood on Detroit Avenue. And while the old store felt a tad cramped, the new spot is spacious, with a decidedly boutique atmosphere that includes well-curated displays of on-trend crop tops and '90s frocks decked with sunflowers. A back room is stocked with shoes, bags and floor-to-ceiling racks of mostly Mid-century attire, while another is brimming with dapper duds for the guys. And unlike so many vintage stores, prices are very reasonable (even for this cheapskate.) Plus, they can do alterations for you if a skirt is too long, etc.

Hop on the spring crochet trend with the real deal, from Future No Future's selection of '60s and '70s crochet and lace frocks.

Clockwise from upper left: an assortment of colorful vintage dresses, dress your dude as a lumberjack with a big assortment of men's plaid shirts, cool purses, green boots that I fell in love with but did not buy (maybe you should?)

I definitely recommend checking out the new and improved Future No Future. Who knows? You might just find the perfect thing your wardrobe has been missing too.

Need further proof the leather jacket was destined for me? A rainbow appeared when I left the store. See? Even the heavens agree.
